Responsible Play

Last updated · 13 June 2026

ChapaSwali is built around a simple promise: you should always be in control of how much you spend and how often you play. If anything in this page describes you, please pause and reach out to support.

1. The platform's commitments

We design ChapaSwali to be fun, fair, and finite. To support that:

  • Daily caps by default. KES 10 000 deposit cap and KES 50 000 cash-out cap per user per 24 hours. Lower personal caps are coming in Phase 5.
  • Self-exclusion built in. From your settings you can pause deposits and match-joining for 1, 7, 30, or 90 days. You can extend an active exclusion but not shorten it.
  • No predatory mechanics. No loot boxes. No surprise charges. No "double or nothing" buttons. Match outcomes are deterministic given player performance — there's no random multiplier on top.
  • Clear receipts. Every transaction is on the wallet ledger. Every M-PESA payment shows up in your phone's M-PESA statement.
  • Easy support escalation. Open a ticket from /support/new any time. Money-related issues are flagged high priority.

2. Set yourself sensible limits

Before you start any session, ask yourself:

  • Time: how long am I going to play? Set a clear stop time.
  • Money: what's my budget for the day? Stick to it. We display today's deposit usage on the top-up page so you can see at a glance.
  • Mood: never play to chase a loss or to escape a bad day.

3. Warning signs

If two or more of these describe you in the last few weeks, please pause and consider self-exclusion or seeking help:

  • You're playing more than you intended to.
  • You've deposited money you couldn't afford to lose.
  • You've hidden the amount you've spent from a partner, friend, or family member.
  • You've felt guilty, anxious, or short-tempered after playing.
  • You've borrowed to play or to chase a loss.
  • You can't stop thinking about the next match, even at work or with family.

4. How to take a break

You have two paths:

  • Self-exclusion (recommended). From your settings pick 1, 7, 30, or 90 days. Deposits and match-joining are blocked instantly. Your balance is preserved. To lift early, contact support — we won't unblock it on the same day.
  • Account closure. For longer breaks, ask support to close your account permanently. Your wallet balance is paid out to your M-PESA (cash mode only); your match history is anonymised.

5. Help in Kenya

If gambling-style play is affecting your finances, relationships, work, or mental health, support is available:

  • Befrienders Kenya — emotional support hotline. +254 722 178 177.
  • Mental health hotline (Ministry of Health) 1190 (free from Safaricom).
  • Kenya National Council on Substance Abuse (NACADA) — confidential support hotline 1192.
  • Gamblers Anonymous — for global support and meeting locations: gamblersanonymous.org.

You can also speak to your GP, a counsellor, or a trusted friend or family member. Reaching out is the hard step; everything after gets easier.

6. Family support

Worried about someone else's play? You can email us at support@chapaswali.com and we'll work with you on a path forward — including requesting that we self-exclude their account if they've shared credentials with you and consent.

7. Age policy

ChapaSwali is for adults only. You must be 18+ to register and play. If you suspect a minor has access to an account, contact support immediately — we'll close the account without requiring documentation.
